1964 MS Freedom Democrat Delegates Share story of Atlantic City DNC Convention at Stockton

  ATLANTIC CITY -- For David Dennis , a chance for the United States to stand up against racism in politics did not come with the election of Barack Obama in 2008 or a chance to elect Kamala Harris in November but 1964 in Atlantic City. What is referred to as Freedom Summer, reached an apex during the Democratic National Convention in Atlantic City with the racially mixed Mississippi Freedom Democrats, led by iconic civil rights activist Fannie Lou Hamer , were refused seats at the convention in favor of an all-white delegation. Some of those delegates spoke at Stockton University in Atlantic City on Tuesday, Aug. 20 during the 60 th anniversary of that tumultuous political convention, to talk about what happened then and the parallels they see in today's political climate. OPINION: A Double Standard in Political Discourse? What If Kamala Harris Had Talked About 'White Jobs'?

  BY TAJA JOHNSON In the politically charged atmosphere of the United States, where every word spoken by a public figure can ignite a firestorm, it's worth asking a provocative question: What if the roles were reversed, and Vice President Kamala Harris had made a comment about "white jobs" in the same manner that former President Donald Trump has referenced "black jobs"? How would the nation react, and how might it impact her political future, especially considering the heightened scrutiny women of color face in American politics? Imagine Harris addressing a predominantly white audience and making a remark about the importance of "white jobs." The backlash would likely be immediate and severe. Critics would argue that such a statement is divisive, exclusionary, and pandering to a particular racial demographic in a way that could be seen as fostering resentment or reinforcing racial divisions. 4 SJ People of Color Named to Insider NJ Policy Makers 100 Power List

  CLYDE HUGHES | AC JosepH Media ATLANTIC CITY – The president of the NAACP New Jersey State Conference and former Winslow elected official are among the four people of color with South Jersey connections who made the Insider NJ 2024 “Insider 100 Policy Makers Power List,” which was released last week. U.S. Rep. Andy Kim Visits, Touts Bridgeton's CompleteCare Health Network

  BRIDGETON – U.S. Rep. Andy Kim , the leading candidate in the U.S. Senate race in New Jersey, visited the CompleteCare Health Network on Friday in a low-key event during National Health Center Week to show his support for local healthcare community. Kim's entourage consisted of his driver, South Jersey organizer and photographer – no big campaign signs, rallies or fanfare. For Kim, it was a chance to meet people at the grassroots level taking care of those who need healthcare the most but, in most instances, the least able to pay. After meeting with the executives, including President and CEO J. Curtis Edwards , Kim said he left impressed. Kim visited CompleteCare's administrative offices in Bridgeton and then the Gwendolyn Gould Center at the Vineland Health Campus . READ the entire story here.

Johnny Santiago Takes Lead at Hispanic Leadership Association

  CAMDEN – After 35 years of law enforcement experience, former command officer Johnny Santiago said he hopes to promote diversity during his term as the board president of the Hispanic Leadership Association of New Jersey . Santago worked with Delaware River Port Authority of Pennsylvania and New York and the Port Authority Transit Corporation , being named its DRPA’s Police Officer of the Year along with other awards while rising to lieutenant. “I attended several NJ HLA Leadership and Awards Gala events and the interest in the non-profit organization’s mission became of interest to me,” Santiago told Front Runner La Prensa. “I was invited to attend a board meeting by the founder Angel Fuentes in 2019. HAAC Honors Community Leaders at Nuestro Pueblo Awards

  ATLANTIC CITY – The Big Cypress Rooftop Terrace with the legendary Steel Pier shining as a backdrop at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino made for the ideal venue for the Hispanic Association of Atlantic County Nuestro Pueblo Awards on Thursday night, July 18. The annual Nuestro Pueblo Awards (our community in Spanish) is annually organized by HAAC to pay tribute to those who have provided outstanding service to the local Latino community. For the past two years, the dinner has been an “en blanco” or all white affair where attendees dressed in white.  READ the full story here .
